What is PalTalk?

PalTalk is a website that provides FREE software which makes it possible to have group meetings (of any size) using your computer as a voice and text communication tool. It’s a cross between a text only chat group and a voice only telephone. The great benefit of PalTalk is that we can join with each other and have meetings in the comfort and convenience of our own homes.

Your computer needs to have working speakers and, if you want to talk also, a working microphone. If you don't have a mic you can type your questions / comments for all to see in the room's text box. Test your equipment before hand. You can do this easily by using Windows Voice Recorder from the Start-> Programs-> Accessories-> Entertainment menu. Jump To ACIM Gather Program Guide

Dr. Sheryl Moore Valentine has been a Chiropractor since 1985 - practicing in the San Marino/South Pasadena area. Her focus is on seeing her patients as a whole person rather than just a symptom. Along with treating physical pain, she also counsels patients on natural alternatives for menopause, depression, anxiety and other conditions.

Over the years, her patients have found her to be therapeutic not only in mind and body, but spirit as well.

Dr. Valentine has studied in the field of spirituality for many years and has been lecturing regularly on spiritual principles since 1993. She has written a book entitled, "Oh My God. It's ME!"

The HLC Typescript Version of A Course in Miracles

The Earlier Versions and the Editing of A Course in Miracles

Life for students of A Course in Miracles used to be simpler than it is today. We had one version of our revered book, and we knew that this version was almost exactly as its scribe, Helen Schucman, heard it, straight from Jesus. She herself gave this impression in the Course’s preface:

Only a few minor changes have been made. Chapter titles and subheadings have been inserted in the Text, and some of the more personal references that occurred at the beginning have been omitted. Otherwise the material is substantially unchanged.

Then everything changed. In January of 2000, an earlier version of the Course, called the Hugh Lynn Cayce Version, was disseminated on the Internet. Later in that same year, an even earlier version, called the Urtext, also became available on the Internet. Both versions showed that the Course as we knew it had gone through a far more extensive editing process than anyone had suspected.

While before we felt the comfort of knowing that our scripture, unlike so many others, was free of human influence, we now began to wonder how much of the Course was altered by human editors. We also wondered which was the “true” version. Indeed, the Hugh Lynn Cayce Version was quickly published under the rather in-your-face title Jesus’ Course in Miracles (and just as quickly became unavailable due to a court injunction).

This article attempts to answer, to the best of available knowledge, the following questions: What are the earlier versions? How do they differ from the standard Course? What was the editing process by which they became the standard Course? Finally, I will draw conclusions about the quality of the editing and offer recommendations about where to go from here.

Helen Schucman is credited as co-author of The Retarded Child from Birth to Five : A Multidisciplinary Program for the Child and Family. In his book Absence from Felicity: The Story of Helen Schucman and Her Scribing of A Course in Miracles, Kenneth Wapnick claims that Helen Schucman was once asked by Mother Teresa to work with mentally handicapped children in her Indian foundation. Helen Schucman is quoted as not accepting the offer.

Gary Renard, the best-selling author of The Disappearance of the Universe and Your Immortal Reality, was born on the historic North Shore of Massachusetts. He became a successful professional guitar player, but during the harmonic convergence of 1987, he heard a Calling and began to take his life in a different direction. At the beginning of the 1990’s, he moved to Maine, where he underwent a powerful spiritual awakening. As instructed, he slowly and carefully wrote Disappearance over a period of nine years.
